There are hundreds of videos and articles introducing how to connect an RJ45 connector to a bulk CAT-5e or CAT-6 ethernet cable. Here in this article, TECHDesign will still do the same but use the simplest words and the easiest way to show how to wire an RJ45 connector (or say, to make an ethernet cable) with both T568A and T568B wiring standards. Besides, the pinout of ethernet cables will be shown as well.
Before wiring an RJ45 connection, you should confirm which kind of ethernet cables you want to make, straight-through or crossover. A straight-through ethernet cable is used to connect a computer to a hub or a switch, and both ends follow either T568A or T568B standard. A crossover ethernet cable is usually used to connect a computer to another computer; while one end follows T568A standard, and the other end follows T568B standard.
These are what you need to make an RJ45 connection:
1. Bulk CAT-5e or CAT-6 ethernet cable
2. Bulk RJ45 connectors for CAT-5e or CAT-6
3. An RJ45 crimping tool
Steps for Making an RJ45 Connection
Step1: Use the RJ45 crimping tool to remove the wire insulation of the ethernet cable 2.5 cm from the end then unwind the wires inside.
Step2: Insert each wire into the RJ45 connector in the below order. White-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, and brown for T-568A standard; while white-orange, orange, White-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, and brown for T-568B standard.
Please be noted that all the wires should be completely inserted into the connector and directly touch the metal ends of it.
Step3: Use the RJ45 crimping tool to crimp the connector by squeezing it tightly.
